Federalism

Federalism is a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of government. Both the national government and the smaller political subdivisions, such as state governments, have the power to make laws and both have a certain level of autonomy from each other. The main features of federalism include the existence of dual government at both the central and state level, separation of powers, rigid and written constitutions, supremacy of the constitution, independence of judiciary.
